As we age, why is losing weight so hard? It is true that our metabolism slows down, but there are easy tips to help you slim down and look fantastic.

What we eat is the first place to look. It’s much better to eat ‘real’ food. You know… the kind that actually grows on trees and that is picked off the vine.

Unfortunately, man made additives have not benefited our bodies. Whole foods and whole grains are much better than packaged products with unpronounceable ingredients.

Weight Loss Tip – Smaller More Frequent Meals

Smaller meals spread out through the day work better than 3 large meals. Oh, and please don’t skip breakfast. It’s actually the most important meal of the day. There is a popular saying to have breakfast like a King, lunch like a Queen and dinner like a pauper. I believe 6 pauper meals a day is your best choice.

The next critical requirement for losing weight is exercise. No, I don’t believe you need to exercise hours everyday. Who has that kind of time? From what I’ve read and studied short intense workout benefit you more than longer less intense ones.

Short Intense Workouts for Weight Loss

I read a study by Dr. Sears showing that in tests the people that did sprints lost much more fat that those who walked an hour everyday on a treadmill, or spent hours at the gym. The trick it working to your highest intensity for brief spurts of time.

Other important healthy activities include weight bearing exercises or exercises with weights. We lose bone mass with age but weight bearing exercises and using weights can actually help our bones and muscles to stay strong. I’ve seen a 94 year old woman lifting weights and also doing the spits. Amazing!

Importance Of Stretching

Speaking of stretching. That is another important part of good health. At a health club, I met a woman who told me stretching helped her to get out of a wheelchair. There are several excellent stretching DVD’s on the market and I recommend you stretch everyday. I usually stretch first thing in the morning and again at night. I’ll stretch for 10 or 15 minutes.
